NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware scored three times in the bottom of the eighth to hand the Bryant baseball team a tough-luck 4-2 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.
The Bulldogs fall to 3-5-1 and drops the weekend series with the Blue Hens with the loss. Bryant has now lost four of its five games in the eighth inning or later. The Black and Gold are back at Conaty Park on Tuesday (March 4) when they host Merrimack at 2:30 p.m.
Bryant led 2-0 after five and 2-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth on Sunday. A one-out bloop to shallow right, however, fell between three Bryant fielders for a double. A sinking liner to left then fell for a game-tying double and the Blue Hens took the lead with a two-out, two-run single.
Clay Robbins was saddled with a no decision after allowing just one run on five hits over five-plus innings. He didn't walk a batter and struck out five.
Jared Burrows tossed 2.0 scoreless innings.
Zac Zyons scored both of Bryant's runs on Sunday, while
Gavin Noriega had two hits and an RBI.

- Bryant was able to scratch across single runs in the third and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead. In the third, Zyons was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a single and scored on a ground ball from Noriega.
- Zyons reached again with an HBP in the fifth and was on third with two outs when he broke for home. A catcher's balk was called on the Blue Hens, allowing Zyons to be safe at home to make it 2-0.
- It remained 2-0 into the sixth when a Amato led off with a hustle double. He came around to score on a sac fly to make it 2-1.
- In the bottom of the eighth, Trey Deitelbaum recorded the first out of the inning and then got a pop up down the right field line. The ball fell between three fielders for a double. Amato then hit a sinking liner to left that Matt D'Amato dove for but came up short. It went for a game-tying double and the Blue Hens were able to take the lead on a two-out, two-run single to left.
