D'Amico delivers as Bryant defeats UAlbany, 9-8, on Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Pat D'Amico's two-out RBI double broke an 8-8 tie and lifted the Bryant baseball team to a 9-8 victory over UAlbany on Sunday afternoon at Conaty Park.
 
The Bulldogs improve to 9-12-1 overall and 1-2 in America East play with the win. Bryant wraps up its nine-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon when it hosts Sacred Heart (3:00 p.m.).
 
D'Amico finished the game 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Cam Papetti added his first-career three-hit game, while Brandyn Durand and Gavin Greger each collected two RBI.
 
Toby Scheidt and Landon White closed the door on the Great Danes, striking out five of the nine batters they faced over the final 2.1 innings.

Key Moments
  • Papetti's fly ball to center was dropped in the bottom of the eighth, putting him on second and setting up D'Amico's game-winning hit.
How it Happened
  • D'Amico gave Bryant an early lead as he lifted a home run over the right field wall in the first.
  • The Bulldogs extended their lead to 4-0 with three runs in the second. Greger brought in the first two runs with a double to left center and Papetti brought home the third run with a double into the left field corner.
  • UAlbany scored the next five runs to take the lead. The Great Danes plated three runs in the third and two more in the fourth. In the third, three-straight singles plated the first run and a fielder's choice brought home the second. A two-out double scored the third run of the inning.
  • In the fourth, three walks loaded the bases with no outs. A single to center and a sac fly gave UAlbany a 5-4 lead.
  • The Great Danes extended the lead to 6-4 with an RBI ground out in the fifth.
  • Bryant rallied to take the lead with a four-run fifth. Five-straight singles plated the first three runs. Noriega drove in a run with a bloop over the shortstops head and Durand gave the Bulldogs a 7-6 lead with a two-run single to right. Wyers made it 8-6 with a sac fly to center.
  • UAlbany tied the game in the seventh. Two walks setup the inning and a two-strike, two-out single to right tied the game at 8-8.
  • Bryant was able to take a 9-8 lead with a two-out run in the eighth. Cam Papetti reached second as his high fly ball to center was dropped. D'Amico then ripped a two-out RBI double down the left field line to score Papetti with the lead run.
  • White then struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth to close it out.
