Bryant falls to Brown on Tuesday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- Despite a five point effort from Dawson Rielly, the Bryant men's lacrosse team would come up just short in their Ocean State Cup battle with the Brown Bears, falling by a final score of 10-8 on Tuesday at Beirne Stadium.

With the loss, the Black and Gold fall to 2-3 on the year. Bryant has a quick turnaround against St. John's on Saturday at Beirne Stadium. Faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m.


Dawson Rielly and Luca Elmaleh finished with multiple point outings on the night. Rielly led the Black and Gold with five points (3g, 2a). Elmaleh tallied two points (1g, 1a).

  • Brown outscored Bryant 6-2 in the third quarter, taking a three goal lead over the Black and Gold.
How it Happened
  • After nearly six minutes of scoreless action, Brown would strike first as Ennis Udo found the back of the net coming off a feed from Wells Bligh with 9:08 to go in the first
  • The Bulldogs countered two minutes later when Jack Lonsinger received a pass from Brian Russell and scored on a diving shot with 7:12 remaining in the first frame.
  • Marcus Wertheim made quick work for the Bears in the second quarter, scoring only 53 seconds into the quarter putting them ahead 2-1.
  • The Bulldogs rallied midway through the quarter, going on a 3-0 run that was sparked by Dawson Rielly, who scored off a feed from Russell at 11:06.
  • Zac Amend was the next to break through for the Bulldogs, doing so with 9:46 remaining in the half. 
  • Max Dantona capped off the run for Bryant, scoring at the 8:14 mark thanks to an assist from Rielly.
  • Brown narrowed its deficit to one with just under two minutes remaining in the half as Aidan McLane found Felix Rockefeller for a man-up score.
  • Mark Witt evened the score for the Bears, scoring only 13 seconds into the second half.
  • Marcus Wertheim located Aidan McLane for a goal at 12:13 in the third, giving the Bears the lead.
  • Bryant's Nick Vance broke a 3-0 run for the Bears, scoring off an assist from Gabe Chinitz with 12:03 to go in the quarter.
  • McLane would strike again for Brown scoring off an assist from Matteo Corsi with 11:11 remaining in the third.
  • Wertheim gave Brown the lead for good with 10:10 remaining in the third quarter. Ben Scandone would get credited with the assist.
  • Brown extended its lead to three thanks to goals from Michael Dowd and Aidan McLane to end the period.
  • The Bulldogs attempted to mount a fourth quarter comeback as Dawson Rielly netted his second goal of the night with 10:10 to go in the fourth.
  • Brown, however, held strong and added a goal of its own with 4:15 remaining from Jeremy Hopsicker.
  • Rielly scored again for Bryant with 56 seconds remaining to complete his hat-trick but the Bears would hold on and win 10-8.
