Bryant to host St. John's on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's lacrosse team will welcome in its second Big East opponent of the year on Saturday, March 8th when it takes on St. John's. Faceoff is set for 12:00 PM.

THE SERIES

Saturday's game marks the first time the Bulldogs and Red Storm have squared off in program history. Bryant last hosted a Big East opponent on Feb. 8 in its season opener against Providence.

SCOUTING THE RED STORM
  • St. John's enters Saturday at 2-4 on the season. They most recently fell at home to No. 17 Fairfield by a final score of 20-8.
  • The Red Storm's offense is led by senior attackman Brian Kelly. In six games so far this season, he has tallied 27 points (16g, 11a). He recorded back-to-back four goal games against Quinnipiac and Hofstra on Feb. 18 and 22.
  • St. John's has rotated two different goalies throughout the season. Graduate student Patrick Scarborough has seen the majority of time in the cage, starting four games and making 53 saves. Freshman Matt Nelson has started the other two games, including their last contest against Fairfield. Nelson currently has 32 saves on the year, 20 of which came against the Stags.
  • At the faceoff X, St. John's has employed a two-man platoon. Sophomore Adam Dembicki has taken the majority of draws, winning 37-of-82 and scooping 16 ground balls. He has been paired with freshman Ethan Wiegand, who has won 29-of-78 faceoffs and collected nine ground balls.
  • The Red Storm is coached by Justin Turri. He is in his third year at the helm.

BRYANT NOTES AND NOTABLES
  • Dawson Rielly is tied for first in the nation in Individual Man-Up goals with 5 so far this season.
  • Brian Russell and Jack Lonsinger have also recorded double-digit point for the Bulldogs so far this season. Russell has 15 points (8g, 7a) while Lonsinger has 13 points (7g, 6a).
  • Bryant is also fifth in man-up offense as a team (0.615).
  • Bryant is eighth in the NCAA in clearing percentage (.900)
  • Bryant is 10th in the nation in caused turnovers per game (10.60)
  • The Bulldogs are tied for 23rd in the NCAA in scoring offense, averaging 12.40 goals per game.
  • The Black and Gold are tied for 28th in the NCAA in assists per game; averaging 7.40 per game.
  • Bryant is tied for 23rd in the nation in points per game; averaging 19.80 ppg.
  • Bulldogs sophomore midfielder Richie Reid played his first season at St. John's. He would make seven starts and appear in all 15 games for the Red Storm. He finished his freshman year with six goals after putting 17-of-30 shots on net while also scooping four ground balls.
