VESTAL, N.Y. –
Gavin Greger broke a 5-5 tie with an eighth-inning home run and
Toby Scheidt escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth as the Bryant baseball team completed a weekend sweep of Binghamton with a 6-5 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs improve to 15-15-1 overall and 5-4 in the America East with the win. Bryant earns its first series sweep of the year and has now won seven-straight games against Binghamton.
Bryant led 3-1 and 5-2 before the Bearcats were able to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. Greger, however, wasted little time giving Bryant the lead back as he hammered the first pitch of the top of the eighth into the right field bullpen for his first home run of the year.
Scheidt then came on to close it out in the ninth but a pair of infield singles and an intentional walk had the bases loaded for Binghamton cleanup hitter Evin Sullivan. Scheidt, however, induced a ground ball to second and
Zac Zyons and
Drew Wyers converted the game-ending 4-6-3 double play.
Greger finished 2-for-5 with two RBI, while
Gavin Noriega had three hits, including a two-run home run.
Drew Wyers added two hits and scored twice.
Jackson Vanesko and Scheidt combined for 4.0 innings of one-run relief.
