Kaelynn O'Brien and Eileen Ferry take home major America East awards

BOSTON, MA-- The Bryant University women's lacrosse team racked up America East postseason honors on Thursday, headlined by Kaelynn O'Brien being named Defender of the Year and Eileen Ferry earning Coach of the Year.

O'Brien becomes the first America East Defender of the Year in program history, while Ferry becomes the third different head coach in DI program history to earn coach of the year honors. 

As a freshman, O'Brien was named to the America East Second Team and the America East All-Rookie team. This year, O'Brien picks up Defender of The Year honors and was named First Team All-America East and All-Academic with a 3.74 GPA as a business administration major. 


On the season, O'Brien leads the Bulldogs with 46 caused turnovers, 35 ground balls and 54 draw controls across 16 starts. She also added three goals and four assists on the year.

Eileen Ferry takes home Coach of the Year, earning individual honors alongside O'Brien, in just her second season at helm. She joins Brianna Roche and Jill Batcheller as Bryant coaches to win coach of the year honors.

Ferry coached the Bulldogs to a 10-6 overall record and a 5-1 mark in America East play. After being predicted to finish sixth in the preseason poll, Ferry guided Bryant to a regular season title and the top seed in the America East Championship. The Bulldogs finished the regular season leading the league in ground balls (290), caused turnovers (216), and clear percentage (.893), while tallying 200 goals on the year.

Jessica Tosone, and Isabelle Katter joined O'Brien on the First Team. Tosone collected 50 ground balls, 45 draw controls, and 40 caused turnovers. Katter led the Bulldogs in total points with 59 (32 goals, 27 assists), while adding eleven ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Emily DeGeorge was named to the All-America East Second Team and the All-Academic Team after leading Bryant with 42 goals. She added seven assists, eight ground balls, and six draw controls, finishing the regular season with 49 points. DeGeorge also posted a 3.81 GPA as a business administration major.

Riley O'Mara and Sam Centofante claimed Second Team honos with DeGeorge as O'Mara tallied 28 goals, two assists, 14 ground balls, and caused 13 turnovers. Centofante started all 16 games in net, logging over 900 minutes and making 123 saves with a .413 save percentage.

Freshmen Eli Torbay and Rylee Slate were recognized on the America East All-Rookie Team. Torbay, a defender from Maryland, appeared in all 16 games with six caused turnovers and seven ground balls. Slate, a midfielder from Pennsylvania, played in 15 contests, finishing with three goals, three assists, seven ground balls, and five draw controls.
