Papetti homers twice, Bryant defeats UMBC 10-0 on Thursday

BALTIMORE – Cam Papetti homered twice and drove in four runs to lift the Bryant baseball team to a 10-0 victory over UMBC in the first game of their America East series on Thursday night at Alumni Field.
 
The Bulldogs improve to 31-17-1 overall and 16-6 in America East play  with their 20th win in the last 23 games. Bryant is now 14-2 in its last 16 league games.
 
Papetti's first-career multi-homer game highlighted a strong showing from the bottom four hitters in Bryant's lineup. Papetti, Brandyn Durand, Matt D'Amato and Charlie Saul combined to go 8-for-16 with three home runs, eight RBI and six runs scored.
 
Michael Belcher, Owen Birchard, Dylan Scudder and Toby Scheidt combined to shut out the Retrievers on five hits. They walked one and struck out 10.

  • D'Amato set the tone early with a long solo home run in the top of the second.
How it Happened
  • UMBC put its first two runners on in the bottom of the first but Belcher got a strikeout and a 6-4-3 double play to end the rally.
  • D'Amato then swung the momentum to the Bulldogs with a long solo home run to right field in the second.
  • In the third, Bryant loaded the bases and Durand's squibber to second was good enough for an RBI infield single.
  • Papetti pushed the lead to 3-0 with a long solo home run in the top of the fourth.
