COACH GARLACY'S COMMENTS
"We just didn't bring the energy required today. We didn't serve aggressively and thus allowed the FIU attack to be very fast."
"
Maeve Voltz had another good outing for us and led the attack.
Hannah Jackson also saw her first court time and hit well.
Lea Mackey blocked well and showed she can have an aggressive press."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SET 1 – The Panthers stormed out to an early lead, going up 8-1 and forcing a Bryant timeout. They wouldn't stop there as they continued to pour it on, taking a commanding 14-3 lead. The Bulldogs didn't have an answer to combat the Panthers potent offensive attack as they cruised to a 25-13 first set victory. London Hunt and Lea Mackey each had 2 kills for the Bulldogs offense.
- SET 2 – The Bulldogs got back-to-back kills from Arianna Ugolini to open the second set. Lea Mackey and Maeve Voltz each added kills as Bryant took the 8-7 lead. The Panthers responded by going on a 7-1 run to take a 14-9 lead, prompting a Bryant timeout. Maeve Voltz continued to be the spark for the Bulldogs as she rattled off two kills late in the set to cut the deficit to 21-16 FIU. However, the Panthers closed out the set strong and finished it off 25-19, taking a 2-0 lead in sets.
- SET 3 – The Bulldogs battled with the Panthers, with the score being 5-5 to start the third set. The Panthers then went on a 6-2 run to take the 11-7 lead. Maeve Voltz continued to be a spark for the Bulldogs as she added her 7th kill of the game to give them some life. Bryant couldn't capitalize on the momentum from Voltz's strike however, as they continued to play from behind against the Panthers with FIU going on an 8-4 run to take a 19-11 lead and force a Bryant timeout. The Bulldogs got some much-needed offense from their freshmen including Ruth Ochelli and Hannah Jackson who each notched a kill, cutting the deficit to 21-14. Bryant couldn't keep up with FIU however as the Panthers sealed the sweep with a 25-14 third set victory.
