SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Hofstra scored under two minutes into the second overtime to earn a 2-1 victory over the Bryant field hockey team on Sunday afternoon at Cowen Field.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 2-2 on the season, splitting its season-opening four-game homestand. Bryant plays its first road game of the season on Friday (Sept. 12) when it visits Providence.
Hofstra grabbed a 1-0 lead on Sunday before
Callie Caito's fourth goal of the year tied the game in the fourth quarter. Gwen van Dijk, however, carried the ball along the endline and found the back of the cage just 1:39 into the second overtime.

First Quarter
- Bryant had the lone chance of the first half as Callie Caito's drive was turned away.

- The Bulldogs controlled possession in the second half but Hofstra successfully defended a corner and limited the Bulldogs' transition game.
Third Quarter
- Hofstra took advantage of a Bryant turnover to take the lead. Jaime Lewis scored for the Pride, hammering a shot into the lower left of the cage.
Fourth Quarter
- Bryant was able to tie the game off an APC. Usually the inserter, Caito lined up on the left of the circle and took the feed from Claire Joss. Caito's shot snuck inside the near post.
Overtime
- The Pride collected their first penalty corners of the afternoon in the first overtime but Bryant was able to defend.
- In the second overtime, van Dijk dribbled along the endline but her initial ball was denied by Maud van Lierop. van Dijk, however, collected the loose ball and pushed it home.
Bryant Notes and Notables
- Bryant split its season-opening four-game homestand, dropping each of the last two games 2-1.
- The Bulldogs are now 2-4 all-time vs Hofstra.
- Caito now has four goals on the season, matching her output from a season ago.
