Linney spent two seasons (2023-24) at Norfolk State as the Offensive QC and Assistant WR Coach and then the Runnings Back Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.
In his second season at Norfolk St. he helped the running back room tally 1,930 total yards, 4.3 yards per rush, and 160.8 yards per game. They also recorded 18 touchdowns and had a season-long TD of 82 yards.
In his first season with the Spartans, Linney led a powerful ground game for the Spartans, ranking 27th in the FCS with 173.8 rushing yards per game. Norfolk State found the end zone on the ground 14 times, including a three-touchdown performance against Delaware State.

The Spartan running back room enjoyed a breakthrough performance in a 21-14 road victory at Towson. Norfolk State accumulated 350 rushing yards against the Tigers, the second-highest single-game total in the program’s history.

He joined NSU after spending the 2022 season with the Richmond football team where he was an offensive quality control assistant.Â
Before reaching Richmond, Linney was the running backs coach at Missouri Southern for one year.
Prior to Southern, Linney was at East Central University in Oklahoma where he served as an offensive graduate assistant, coaching tight ends and special teams, while assisting with recruitment and training of those positions. He was responsible for managing and training the tight ends, position grading, academic grade checks, creating scouting cards, running position-based drills, developing and managing practice scripts, and leading the first-team scout team repetitions during team drills.
Prior to ECU, Linney coached for one season at Tyler Junior College in Texas. While there, he was responsible for coaching and training the running backs and assisting with special teams. He managed all running backs including, all aspects of recruiting, positional grading, academic grade checks, creating scouting cards and position-based drills, developing and managing practice scripts, and leading first-team scout team repetitions during team drills. He coached All Conference Honorable Mention Running Back: Roderick Hawkins.Â
Prior to Tyler JC, Linney coached a season at Independence Community College where he was an assistant linebacker coach, recruiting manager and co-equipment manager. He managed all linebackers including, all aspects of recruiting, performing grade checks, creating scouting cards and position-based drills, developing and managing practice scripts, and leading daily practice drills.
Linney also coached at Rock Ridge High School in Ashburn, Virginia for two seasons where he was the head football coach for the freshman team.Â
