Maggie Fox just completed her third season as the Head Cross Country Coach and Assistant Track & Field Coach in 2025-26.

Fox's first three seasons in Smithfield have resulted in three of the greatest seasons for distance runners in program history.

Coaching Highlights

  • Part of the 2024-25 Women's Coaching Staff of the Year at the America East Indoor Championships.
  • Coached first two female student-athletes (Jasmine Trott and Chloe Whiting) to reach NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships First Round in 2025.
  • Trott and Whiting qualified for the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships East First Round in 2026, becoming first two-time qualifiers.
  • Helped Jasmine Trott win the 2025 America East Cross Country Championship and become the first runner in DI program history to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country National Championships.
  • Helped women's indoor track and field team place second at the 2024-25 America East Championships. 
  • Helped women's outdoor track and field team to a first place finish at the New England Championships, a first in program history, in 2024.

2025-26

  • Fox oversaw arguably the greatest year for distance running in program history.
  • Jasmine Trott started the year by winning the America East Cross Country Championship and becoming the first runner in program history to qualify for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
  • Trott then joined Chloe Whiting at the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Region Championships, becoming the first two-time qualifiers in program history. 
  • Trott's championship season highlighted an outstanding fall for the Bulldog harriers as the women ran to a second-place finish. Whiting placed second and Kelly MacElhiney placed ninth, with all three earning All-America East honors. 
  • The trio then helped the women to a program-best 11th-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regionals. Trott's eighth-place finish qualified her for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, where she finished 189th with a time of 20:28.4.
  • The Bryant women also claimed the Nassaney Invitational for the second-straight season, while the men ran to a third-place finish.
  • During the indoor season, Whiting set a new program record in the 5k and went on to win gold in the event at the America East Indoor Track and Field Championships. Trott earned a bronze in the event. The duo also finished 2-3 in the 3k, with Whiting setting another school record.
  • On the men's side, Ryan Bourke and Justin Shiffrin finished in fourth in the 1000 and 5k, respectively, at the New England Championships.
  • Helped the Bulldogs claim the inaugural Jaylin Rainford Invitational at home.
  • At the Penn Relays, Trott placed 31st in the 5k, while the quartet of Kelley MacElhiney, Emma Guadagnoli, Lauren Haddad and Whiting set a school record in the distance medley relay.
  • MacElhiney went on to break the school record in the 1500 at the America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships, earning a silver medal.
  • Trott won gold in the 10k, while Whiting won gold in the 5k and Shiffrin added a bronze in the 5k.
  • At the NCAA Championships East Region, Trott finished 44th in the 10k, while Whiting finished 30th in the 5k.

2024-25:

  • Cross Country began with a sweep of the Nassaney Invitational as Slaney and Trott both ran to first-place finishes.
  • Slaney would go on to win the New England Championship, while Trott placed second.
  • At the America East Championships, they both ran to second-place finishes. Chloe Whiting added a fourth-place finish to help the women finish fourth, their highest finish in DI program history.
  • The women would run to their highest finish at the NCAA Regionals, placing 22nd. Trott finished 25th overall, the highest female finish in program history. She earned All-Region honors for her performance. Whiting finished 36th, giving the Bulldogs two runners inside the top 50 for the first time in program history.
  • Slaney ran to a 30th-place finish, the highest finish for a male in program history.
  • Whiting began her historic 2025 by breaking Eimear Black's 12-year record in the 5000 by over a minute.
  • The America East Indoor Championships provided one of the greatest performances in program history. Bryant would win 13 medals and the women would finish second, the highest in program history.
  • Whiting won both the 3000 and 5000 on her way to America East Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer.
  • Shelby DeGrenier would keep it rolling as she claimed a gold medal in the 800 at the ECAC Championships.
  • During the outdoor season, Bryant started strong as the men and women swept the Black and Gold Invitational for the second-straight year.
  • Bryant broke both the men's and women's DMR school records as the Penn Relays.
  • Whiting was named America East Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer for the second straight meet after winning gold in the 5000 and silver in the 10,000.
  • Slaney capped his career by breaking the meet record in the 10,000 and winning gold.
  • Whiting and Trott would cap a historic season as both qualified for the NCAA Championships First Round. It marked the first time in program history a female had qualified and the first time multiple athletes qualified in the same year.
  • Whiting would go on to a 20th-place finish at the 5000 in the first round.

2023-24

  • The cross country season was highlighted by Slaney's second-place finish at the America East Championships. It is the highest finish by a male at a conference championship in DI program history. 
  • The women's team would close out the season with its highest finish ever at the NCAA Regionals, placing 25th.
  • Trott got the indoor season going early, breaking Eimear Black's 11-year old school record in the 3000m.
  • The Bulldogs would go on to win nine medals at the America East Indoor Championships. The women finished fourth, the highest finish in DI program history. The meet also included 42 PRs and 28 all-time top-10 finishes.
  • Bryant won five gold medals at the NEICAAA Championships, with Slaney sweeping the 5000 and 3000.
  • The outdoor season featured a first in program history as the men and women both won the Black and Gold Invitational. Trott broke another record held by Black, breaking her 11-year old school record in the 10k.
  • Slaney also shined in pre-championship meets, becoming the first male runner in program history to run a sub-14:00 minute 5k.
  • The women continued their excellent spring, posting their highest finish in program history as they placed third at the America East Championships.
  • It was just the beginning as the Bulldogs won the New England Championship less than a week later. It marked the first victory for either program in school history. 

Fox comes to Smithfield after spending two years at Babson College as an assistant coach. During her time at Babson, Coach Fox oversaw the addition of 22 new school records and helped elevate the program to new heights.

Prior to Babson, Fox worked as an operations coordinator for Boston College and coached for Emmanuel College, overseeing all training including strength and conditioning for distance athletes. Her experience also includes ten years as a head high school cross country coach and four years as a jumps coach in the towns of Needham and Newton. Fox served six years on the USA Track & Field New England board of directors, four in the role of vice president.

Fox graduated from The College of the Holy Cross in 2010 where she competed in cross country and track and field. She then received her CORe: Credential of Readiness in 2016 from Harvard's Online Business School and she earned her MS in Sports Administration in 2021 from Boston College. She has been competing for the Greater Boston Track Club since 2012.
