Bulldogs Shutout and Hand Assumption First Loss of Season

Smithfield, RI - The Bryant
University women's soccer team welcomed the Greyhounds of
Assumption to Bulldog stadium on October 17th afternoon.
The Bulldogs controlled the match from the start and went on to
shutout previously unbeaten Assumption 3-0. Bryant improves to
13-3-2 overall and climb to 9-2-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference.
The Greyhounds drop to 10-1-3 overall and 8-1-3 in NE-10
action.
Bryant got on the board just four and a half minutes into the game
when senior Terri Gidius (Coventry, CT) took a
rebound off the crossbar and put the ball into the net.
Sophomore Tricia Spada (Dedham, MA) gave Bryant a
two goal lead in the final minutes of the first half when she
scored off a corner kick from junior Sara
Gyllstrom (Hudson, MA).
Bryant led 2-0 at the half and would tack on one more goal in the
second. Junior Casey Grange (Methuen, MA) gave the
Bulldogs the insurance goal on a pass from freshman defender
Danielle Malta (Bethel, CT).
The Bulldogs had an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks and did not allow
Assumption to take one shot in the second half. Freshman keeper
Jessica Neales (Swansea, MA) recorded two saves in
the 3-0 victory. Assumption keeper Lauren Matysiak (Holden, MA)
made five saves.
Bryant has now won eight games in a row only allowing two goals
over that span including six shutouts.
The Bulldogs will visit Merrimack on Friday, October
21st with a scheduled game time start of 3:00pm.
