Warriors battle past Bulldogs

– Senior Hilary Caccamo (Milton, Mass.)
scored her third goal of the season late in the second half to give
No. 4 seed Merrimack College a 2-1 win over No. 5 seed Bryant
University Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 women's soccer
quarterfinal action at Warrior Field.
The Warriors (14-4-1) advance to face No. 1 seed Franklin
Pierce Wednesday afternoon in Rindge, N.H. in the Northeast-10
semifinals. The winner will face the winner of the other semifinal
match between No. 2 Assumption and either No. 6 Saint Rose/No. 3
UMass Lowell in the Northeast-10 finals next Sunday.
With the game tied at one, freshman Jennifer Conway (Douglas,
Mass.) lined up to take a corner kick. The ball bounced through the
crease and right to Caccamo, who drilled a sharp-angled shot into
the far corner at 66:29 to give Merrimack its fifth-straight win.
Conway's assist was the first point of her career.
Senior Lindsay Sheffield (Georgetown, Mass.) opened the
scoring at 51:15 when she headed in a cross pass from Caccamo to
give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs (13-6-2) tied the
contest 15 minutes later when Casey Grange scored her eighth goal
of the season at 66:50.
Junior Caitlin Stephan (Northboro,
Mass.) made four saves in the second half to earn her fifth win of
the season. Jessica Neales made seven saves for Bryant.
