Bryant University Bulldogs take down #23 Saint Rose
1-0
Smithfield, RI - The
Bryant University women's soccer team welcomed
23rd ranked Saint Rose to Bulldog Stadium on a beautiful
October 5, Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Diane
Pascale (Plymouth, MA) put home the only goal of the match
in the 25th minute to lift the Bulldogs to a 1-0
victory. Bryant improves to 10-3-2 overall and 6-2-1 in
Northeast-10 Conference play.
In a high intensity match up between these two Northeast-10
Conference foes, Bryant would get the upper hand. At 24:46 in the
first half, junior Casey Grange (Methuen, MA)
would sneak a pass by the diving goalkeeper who came out of net and
tried to prevent a shot. Pascale took full advantage of the open
net and fired her fifth goal of the season into the back of the
goal.
The Bulldogs had two other scoring opportunities on the Golden
Knights but got unlucky. In the 68th minute freshman
Amy Orzechowski (Milford, CT) fired a shot from
just outside the box only to have it clank off the crossbar. Two
minutes later Grange would also be unlucky as she fired a shot
across the field and would ricochet of the left post.
That goal was all the Bulldogs would need as the knock off
previously unbeaten on the road Saint Rose. Bryant also extended
their win streak to five games and a shutout streak to four games.
Each team took eight shots and had five corner kicks a piece.
The defense for both squads played extremely well in a fast paced
game. Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Neales (Swansea,
MA) recorded her sixth shutout of the season saving five shots.
Saint Rose had solid play in net from sophomore Lauren Steinberg
(Hopewell Junction, NY) who made three saves.
The Bulldogs will host 3rd ranked Assumption on Sunday,
October 9 with a scheduled game time start of 1:00pm. This will be
senior day for the Bulldogs.
