Softball Defeats Southern Connecticut 10-2

SMITHFIELD, RI – The Bryant University softball team
cruised past Southern Connecticut, 10-2 in a Northeast-10
Conference game played Thursday at the Bryant Softball Complex.
With the win Bryant improves to 23-14 overall and 20-5 in
Northeast-10 play while Southern Connecticut falls to 21-9-2 and
12-7-1 in conference. Bryant would scored three run in the first
but did its' most damage an inning later as the Bulldogs
pushed across six more runs in the second to blow the game wide
open.
The inning started when Lindsay Connor
(West Haven,
Conn.) was hit by pitch, stole
second, and came around to score on a single by Amanda
Gagne (Wilbraham,
Mass.).
The Bulldogs would later score a run on a balk by Owls pitcher
Kelly Brenner, only to be followed by a Jess Valentini
(Cliffside Park, NJ) two run double. The inning was capped
by a Briana Durborow (Ringoes, NJ) RBI single.
Diane Cummings (Westwood, Mass.) got the win
for Bryant going five innings, allowing two runs, on four hits, and
striking out two. Brenner took the loss for the Owls.
Bryant will return to action on Sunday, May 1, when the Bulldogs
play Assumption in a make-up game set for 10:45AM at WPI in
Worcester.
