Bulldogs shutout American International 5-0
Smithfield,
RI - The Bryant University women's soccer
team welcomed American International to Sutton Field on a rain
soaked Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs dominated the match and
shutout AIC 5-0. Bryant improves to 5-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in
Northeast-10 Conference play.
In a match that was controlled by the Bulldogs, Bryant had goals
from four different players. Senior Sara Vienneau
(Salem, NH) scored the first goal at 16:05 and would prove to be
the game winner. Sophomore Stephanie Zalewski
(Parsippany, NJ) added a goal at 35:49 from a beautiful pass from
freshman Melanie Smith (Rehoboth, MA). Smith also
contributed a goal in the contest on a break away.
Freshman Daisy Martinez (Eliot, ME) recorded her
first collegiate goal towards the end of the first half as she
arched a free kick from the left side into the right corner of the
goal.
Bryant would get their fifth goal on a gift from AIC who scored an
own goal off of one of their defenders. The Bulldogs out shot the
Yellow Jackets 27-5.
Three Bulldog goalies combined for the 5-0 shutout. Freshman
Jessica Neales (Swansea, MA) played 32 minutes
saving one shot. Freshman Ashley Krapels (West
Paterson, NJ) played 42:36 and freshman Jessica
Clark (Barnstable, MA) finished the last 15:24 making two
saves.
The Bulldogs will visit UMass Lowell on Saturday, September 17 with
a scheduled game time start of 12:00pm.
