Bryant University edges
Saint Michael's 1-0 in double overtime
Smithfield, RI - The Bryant University
women's soccer team welcomed Saint Michael's to Sutton
Field on a brisk Saturday afternoon in the midst of Homecoming
weekend. The Bulldogs scored a goal with five minutes remaining in
the second overtime to defeat the Purple Knights 1-0. Bryant
improves to 7-3-2 overall and 4-2-1 in Northeast-10 Conference
play.
In a sloppy match, neither team could muster much offensive
pressure; however, the Bulldogs came out on top in the second
overtime. Senior Sara Vienneau (Salem, NH) beat
her defender and made a beautiful cross to sophomore teammate
Diane Pascale (Plymouth, MA). Pascale shot the
ball to the right of the diving goalie for the score. This was
Pascale's second goal of the season.
Bryant dominated the corner kick category getting 10 chances but
could not capitalize. Solid defense was played on both sides of the
ball which accounted for minimal amount of offensive
opportunities.
Freshman Jessica Neales (Swansea, MA) played a
solid 104 minutes in net saving four shots for the Bulldogs. Saint
Michael's had good performances from their tandem of goal
keepers. Sophomore Molly Cole (Dover, NH) did not allow a goal and
saved six shots in 45 minutes of play. Sophomore Gillian Goldman
(Stratham, NH) allowed the game winning goal with one save in 59
minutes.
The Bulldogs will visit Le Moyne on Tuesday, September 27 with a
scheduled game time start of 4:00pm.
