BULLDOGS CRUISE 5-3 PAST NOVA
SOUTHEASTERN
Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (September 4, 2005) - The red-hot Bryant
University women's soccer team earned its third win in five outings
Sunday as the Bulldogs pulled out a 5-3 win over Nova Southeastern
University at the NSU Soccer Complex. Bryant improves its
record to 3-1-1 on the season.
NSU took early control of the match with a
12th minute goal from Burton, who received a well-timed
passed from teammate Lauren Huffman (Fr., Flower Mound, Texas) in
the midfield. Breaking away from her defender, Burton streaked
toward the goal, slipping the ball past the Bryant goalkeeper,
Ashley Krapels.
Moments later, Burton struck again as defender Jennifer Turner
(So., Rockledge, Fla.) launched a cross from the far side, finding
Burton once again on a break-away in midfield, to give NSU a 2-0
cushion.
However, Bryant University came back in the
19th minute as Sara Vienneau booted a cross into the box
that found Casey Grange sliding, un-marked into the box.
Vienneau and Grange teamed up again in the 30th minute,
as the Bulldogs evened the score on a goal by Vienneau.
The two sides remained level throughout the
rest of the first half as both teams went into half-time with
two-goal a piece.
Both teams continued to battle throughout the
first 15 minutes of the second half, until Bryant University took a
3-2 advantage on a goal by Tricia Spada. Moments later, the
Bulldogs added another as Lindsey Meszaros fed a pass in to
teammate Melanie Smith, who slipped it past a diving Nicole
Paquette (So., Seminole, Fla.).
The Bulldogs added its final goal of the game
in the 73rd minute as Smith netted her second goal of
the game to make it 5-2 Bulldogs before giving up a goal in the
final 10 minutes.
Bryant will look to keep up its winning ways
this week when they travel to Stonehill Wednesday and host Franklin
Pierce on Saturday (3 pm).
