field hockey falls to Southern

The Bryant University field hockey team dropped their second NE-10
Conference game on Tuesday to Southern Connecticut 5-4. The
Bulldogs fall to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference. Bryant will
travel to Franklin Pierce on Saturday with a 1:00pm start time.
The game was tied at zero 22 minutes in until Southern Connecticut
got on the scoreboard with a goal from Cathy
Cardini (Willington, CT). Less than a minute later
teammate Angela Cafarelli (Enfield, CT) gave the
Owls a 2-0 lead.
Junior forward Laynie Sadler (Rehoboth, MA) scored
two of the four Bulldog goals. Sadler is coming off a two goal
performance on Saturday against AIC. She now has four goals on the
season, all coming in the last two games.
Senior tri-captain Maureen Burns (Derry, NH) added
a goal for the Bulldogs to give them a 3-2 lead at the half.
The Owls would tie the game at three on a goal from Cafarelli at
55:56. She would then put Southern Connecticut on top with a goal
just 42 seconds later. Cafarelli finished the match with three
goals.
Bryant fought back with a goal from Courtney
O'Brien (Tewksbury, MA) assisted by Michaela
Dwyer (Buskirk, NY) off a penalty corner. O'Brien
also contributed two assists for the Bulldogs.
Senior Carlie McDermott (West Hartford, CT) netted
the game winning goal for Southern Connecticut with 2:33 left on
the clock on an assist from Cardini. Freshman Grace
Martha (Chesire, CT) had three assists for the Owls.
