Smithfield, R.I.
- Behind three first half goals, the Bryant Field Hockey team
won its first game of the season, defeating American International
5-0 at the Bryant Turf Complex.
Freshman Caitlan Johnson (Walpole, Mass.)
scored two second-half goals, her first two collegiate tallies,
both off Laynie Sadler (Rehoboth, Mass.) corner
passes.
Shana Libman (Attleboro, Mass.) got the
Bulldogs on the board, snapping a 230-minute goalless drought to
start the season, beating goaltender Cindy Armand off a scramble in
front. Two minutes later, Lisa Kennen (Waltham,
Mass.) scored her first career goal off another Sadler
corner setup.
Sadler, who had a goal and two assists on the afternoon, made it
3-0 beating Armand on a penalty stroke.
Kundayi Mawema (Hare, Zimbabwe) picked up her
first collegiate win and shutout, stopping only one shot.
The Bulldogs outshot the Yellow Jackets 12-0 in the first half
and had 23 shots before the Yellow Jackets (1-1, 1-1 NE-10) posted
their first.
