SMITHFIELD, RI - The No. 8 Bryant University women's soccer team
stays undefeated in its 2007 campaign with a 2-0 win over Pace
University in its final Northeast-10 regular-season contest Tuesday
afternoon. The victory is the Bulldogs' 16th of the year
and sets a new school single-season wins record.
Freshman forward Kim Rich (Lancaster, Mass.)
lifted her squad to a 16-0-4 record (11-0-3 NE-10) with a pair of
goals, her third and fourth of the season, notching one in each
half. Rich's first goal came in the 28th minute off
feeds from Daisy Martinez (Eliot, Maine) and
Kristin Fisher (Plymouth, Mass.), while the second
score came in the 78th minute, when she connected with a
cross to the near post from fellow freshman Megan
Vayo (Hanson, Mass.).
Pace's freshman goalkeeper Alexa D'Agostino showed flashes of
brilliance in net, facing 26 shots and making a number of
impressive saves to keep Bryant's lead at just 2-0.
Two Bryant goaltenders, junior starter Jessica
Neales (Swansea, Mass.) and sophomore Katie
Mitchell (Deer Park, NY) split time in the win, each
registering a save a piece.
On the attack, the Bulldogs spread the wealth, getting shots
from 15 different players Tuesday. Bryant outshot the Setters,
26-4, and put 16 of its shots on net.
The loss ends Pace's season at a 4-12-2 mark, with a 1-11-2
record in Northeast-10 Conference play. Bryant enters the
conference tournament the No. 2 seed and will host an NE-10
Conference Quarterfinal matchup on Turf Field Sunday at 5 p.m.
