SMITHFIELD, RI - Alex Dipippo's (Shelton, Conn.) goal in
the 21st minute proved to be the game-winner as
second-ranked Bryant University held on for a 1-0 win over visiting
Saint Michael's College at a warm and humid Bulldog Stadium
Saturday. Bryant, now undefeated in 11 matches to start
seasons, sees its record improve to 9-0-2 overall and 6-0-1 in the
Northeast-10 Conference. Saint Michael's, with the loss,
falls to 4-4-2 (0-4-2 NE-10).
Bryant dominated much of the offensive play throughout the early
going, peppering Purple Knight goalie Gillian Goldman before
finally breaking through midway through the half. With the
Bulldogs pressuring deep in the Saint Michael's defensive end,
Dipippo picked up a loose ball at the top of the 18-yard box and
blasted a hard, low shot that beat Goldman to her left to put
Bryant up 1-0.
The goal would hold up as Bryant withstood a late Saint
Michael's push to preserve the win. Bryant out-shot Saint
Michael's 16 to 4 with Jessica Clark picking up a pair of saves in
the win.
The Bulldogs will travel to Le Moyne Tuesday and will host New
Haven next Friday at 7 p.m.
