BULLDOGS WIN THRILLER OVER QUINNIPIAC, 1-0, IN SEASON
FINALE
HAMDEN, CT - Freshman forward Brooke Duchaney (Hampton
Falls, N.H.) scored her third goal of the season with just
30 seconds remaining in the game to lift the Bryant women's soccer
team to an exciting, 1-0, victory over Quinnipiac Wednesday
afternoon.
The Bulldogs came out and controlled the first half, outshooting
the Bobcats 8-4. Senior keeper Jessica Clark (Barnstable,
Mass.) made four saves to help keep the game scoreless as
the two teams headed to the locker room at the break. Fellow senior
Jessica Neales (Swansea, Mass.) made three saves
in the second half on her way to her second win of the season.
The defenses continued to dominate the game in the second half
as neither team was able to break through. Senior captain
Danielle Malta (Bethel, Conn.) led the Bryant
defensive charge along with Steph Del Mistro (East
Williston, N.Y.) and Molly Wallace (Sandwich,
Mass.), as they were able to contain Quinnipiac leading
scorer and reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Week Furtuna
Velaj to just two shots. Jessica Conley (Salem,
N.H.) also did a solid job in the back off the bench.
With the match still scoreless heading into the 90th
minute of play, Del Mistro brought the ball down the right side of
the field and crossed it to Duchaney on the left side inside the
six yard box who headed the bouncing ball over Bobcat goalkeeper
Jillian Kelley into the lower left side of the net to give Bryant
the, 1-0, win.
It was Del Mistro's third assist of the season, putting her
second on the team in that category. For Duchaney it was her first
collegiate game-winning goal.
Bryant recorded its third shutout of the season, while winning
back-to-back games for the first time in Division I. The Bulldogs
concluded the year with three wins in their final four matches.
It was the final game of the season for Bryant, who finished its
inaugural season of Division I play with a record of 5-9-3.
