BRYANT FIELD HOCKEY FALLS IN
DIVISION I OPENER, 6-0, TO SAINT JOSEPH'S UNIVERSITY

PHILADELPHIA - The Bryant University field hockey program fell
in its 2008 season opener, 6-0, to a strong Saint Joseph's side, as
Hawk senior Marisa Pizzi and junior Kellie Walter each notched a
pair of goals in the Bulldogs' Division I debut.
The Hawks got the scoring started just two minutes in, when
Pizzi notched her first of the day, hooking up with sophomore Jen
Wrublesky for the goal. The duo paired up again seven minutes later
to put Saint Joseph up, 2-0.
Jennifer Schultz and Walter would make the score 4-0 at the
half, with Bryant goalkeeper Kundayi Mawema (Harare,
Zimbabwe) making seven of her 11 saves in the first frame.
After the break, the Hawks would score twice more, one from Anne
Schreuders with another coming again from Walter for a score that
would be eventually go final, 6-0.
The Bulldogs registered four shots on the day, two off the stick
of sophomore transfer Elise Boissoneau (Ashburnham,
Mass.) and one apiece coming from freshman
Katherine Andrusin (North Andover, Mass.) and
Julie Kuchyt (Hatfield, Mass.). Three of the four
shots got on goal.
The loss leaves Bryant at 0-1 to start the year and gives Saint
Joseph's (1-0) their first win of the season.
The Bulldogs stay in Philadelphia for their next matchup and
will face off against another tough team in Temple University,
Sunday at 3 p.m. before returning to Smithfield, R.I. for their
first of two home matches in 2008.
