FIELD HOCKEY STUMPLES AGAINST
TEMPLE, FALLS, 5-0
Boxscore
PHILADELPHIA - The Bryant University field hockey team is still
on the prowl for its first Division I victory, falling short on the
road Sunday afternoon against Temple University, 5-0.
The Bulldogs mustered four shots, three on goal, in the outing,
getting all three shots on goal from freshman forward
Alexandra Czerniak (Holyoke, Mass.). Bryant got
another strong showing from junior goalkeeper Kundayi
Mawema (Harare, Zimbabwe), who recorded 12 saves on the
day, but it wasn't enough to stave off a tough Temple offense.
The Owls got their first goal 20 minutes in, when Dannah Brehm
hooked up with Jamie Adams to give Temple the 1-0 lead. Taryn
Nichols would add another - this one from Brehm - 12 minutes later,
before Charise Young snuck a third goal in just before half.
The second frame brought two more goals - the latter a
sister-to-sister combo that saw Carissa Young feed Charise Young -
for the 5-0 final.
The Bulldogs return to Smithfield, R.I., Monday, Sept. 1 in
search of their first win in 2008. Bryant will take on Mansfield
University at the Bryant Turf Complex in the first of two home
matches on the season. Game time is 12 p.m.
