BULLDOGS FALL SHORT AGAINST SAINT
FRANCIS (Pa.), 5-2, FRIDAY NIGHT
Boxscore
LORETTA, Pa. - The Bryant University field hockey team fell to
future Northeast Conference rival Saint Francis (Pa.), 5-2, Friday
night despite a pair of Bulldog goals.
The game got started with a natural hat trick from Red Flash
junior Belen Albanes to put the home side up, 3-0. The forward
scored twice in the first nine minute of the game and would
register her third and final goal in the 25th minute.
Saint Francis (Pa.) got a pair of insurance goals from Julia
Baczeski and Julia Moore for a 5-0 lead before the Bulldogs got on
the board in the 58th minute with a goal from junior
Caitlan Johnson (Walpole, Mass.) off a penalty
corner, assisted by junior Colleen Wilson (Windham,
N.H.) and freshman Katherine Andrusin (North
Andover, Mass.).
Rookie Alexandra Czerniak (Holyoke, Mass.)
added an unassisted goal in the 60th minute to cut the deficit to
5-2, but the late surge wouldn't be enough to overcome the Saint
Francis lead.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 1-4 on the season, while the Red
Flash got their first win of 2008 to move to 1-3 on the year.
Both goalies, Bryant's Kundayi Mawema (Harare,
Zimbabwe) and Saint Francis's Erin Reifsteck, recorded six
saves.
The Bulldogs stay in Pennsylvania through Sunday, Sept. 14, when
they will take on Robert Morris University at 12:00 p.m.
