BULLDOGS DROP OVERTIME HEARTBREAKER
TO ROBERT MORRIS, 3-2, SUNDAY AFTERNOON
boxscore
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - An unassisted breakaway goal by Robert
Morris's Sam Lawless eight minutes into overtime spoiled the Bryant
University field hockey team's bid for its first Division I win
Sunday afternoon, as the Bulldogs fell, 3-2, in overtime.
The Bulldogs (1-5) came out to a quick start, getting a goal in
the sixth minute off the stick of freshman Alexandra
Czerniak (Holyoke, Mass.) from junior Caitlan
Johnson (Walpole, Mass.) to go up, 1-0. The goal was
Czerniak's second of the season and second in as many games.
But the Colonials evened the score at the 20-minute mark with a
goal of their own, off a Jessica Charles shot to make it 1-1.
Bryant's Tia Pydynkowski (Hampton Falls, N.H.)
got a score, her first of the season, just before halftime to give
the Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage heading into the break, but in the
52nd minute, Charles scored again to knot the game at 2-2.
The score would hold through regulation, forcing the Bulldogs'
first overtime of the season.
But in the extra frame, Lawless broke away into Bryant
territory, knocking the game-winner past freshman goalkeeper
Jennifer Gullotti (Waltham, Mass.) in the 78th
minute to beat the Bulldogs, 3-2.
The start was Gullotti's first of her Bryant career. She made
four saves in her debut.
The Colonials outshot the Bulldogs, 13-5, with a pair of
Bryant's shots coming in the overtime period.
The Bulldogs next travel to Orono, Maine for a 12 p.m. matchup
with the University of Maine on Saturday, Sept. 20.
