BRYANT FALLS TO LEHIGH, 4-1, SATURDAY DESPITE SCORING FIRST DIVISION I GOAL

Boxscore

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Despite the Bryant University field hockey team getting its first Division I goal, scored by sophomore transfer Elise Boissoneau (Ashburnham, Mass.), the Bulldogs fell, 4-1, in a Saturday morning bout against Lehigh University at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

The Mountain Hawks (1-2) earned their first win of the 2008 season behind a pair of goals from freshman Madison Ingal. Lehigh outshot the Bulldogs (1-3), 22-6, in the contest, scoring two goals in each half.

Ingal's first goal came 20 minutes in, when she pushed the ball past Bryant junior goalkeeper Kundayi Mawema (Harare, Zimbabwe) from the right side. Five minutes later, the Mountain Hawks scored again, this time on a penalty corner, to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Bulldogs cut their deficit in half early in the second frame, when Boissoneau drove in from the left and slid the ball past Lehigh's sophomore goalkeeper Lilia Stefaniwski to make it 2-1.

But the lone goal wouldn't be enough. The Mountain Hawks scored twice more in the closing half, getting another from Ingal before junior Kelly Fox added an insurance goal to make the eventual final 4-1 tally.

Mountain Hawk goalkeepers Jessica Miller and Stefaniwsky each recorded two saves in the contest, while Mawema stopped 12 Lehigh shots.

The Bulldogs will next take on future conference rival Saint Fancis (Pa.) in search of their first Division I win of 2008, Friday, Sept. 12 in Loretto, Pa.
