WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPPED BY CONFERENCE FOE MONMOUTH,
1-0
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - In rainy and slippery conditions, the Bryant
women's soccer team was unable to earn its first conference victory
as they fell, 1-0, to Monmouth Friday night under the lights at the
Bryant Turf Complex.
Due to the wet field it was a sloppy game where neither team was
able to hold possession. Only 17 shots were taken, six of which
found their way on net and there were only five corners in the
contest.
With the loss the Bulldogs fall to 2-8-0 on the season and are
still in search of their first Northeast Conference victory. The
Hawks improved to 8-3-1 and remain atop the conference with a 3-0-1
NEC mark.
The game's lone tally came in the second half in the 57th minute
when Monmouth's Andrea Lopez sent a ball from the left side of the
field to the top of the 18-yard box. Confusion between Bryant's
senior keeper Katie Mitchell (Deer park, N.Y.) and
one of her defenders allowed BrieAnne Nomejko to win the ball and
have a wide open net. Nomejko shot the ball with her left foot into
the left side of the net from about 18 yards out.
The Bulldogs outshot the Hawks 9-8. Mitchell recorded three
saves while Monmouth keeper Lia Fierro stopped two Bryant shots.
Bryant returns to action in two days on Sunday, October 11 at 1
p.m. when they host Mount St. Mary's in the first game of a Bulldog
soccer doubleheader at Bulldog Stadium. The men will follow at 3:30
p.m. against Central Connecticut. Both teams are searching for
their first NEC victories.
