TEANECK, N.J. - Samantha Houseal (Mount Joy,
Pa.) threw a complete game shutout and Anne
Dobmeier (Buffalo, N.Y.) drove in two runs in Bryant's 4-0
win over Fairleigh Dickinson Sunday, earning a split of the
doubleheader after losing game one, 6-2. The victory was the tenth
of the year for the Bulldogs, putting their record at 5-4 against
future Northeast Conference opponents.
Game 1
The Knights (10-36) rallied for five runs in the bottom of the
fifth inning, turning a 2-1 deficit

into a 6-2 lead as they went on to the win in game one of the
twin bill. Lauren Hamilton drove in the go-ahead run in the
frame, hitting an RBI single up the middle to put Fairleigh
Dickinson up 3-2, and Ali Keltos added some insurance with a
two-run single to center later in the inning to help lift the
Knights to the win.
Trailing 1-0 going into the top of the fifth, Bryant put
together a two-run, two-out rally to take a 2-1 lead.
Ashley Coon (Levittown, Pa.) drove in the first
run with an infield single to third to tie the game, and
Stephanie Mirando (North Haven, Conn.) put the
Bulldogs in front with a single to the shortstop. Mirando had her
season-best seven game hitting streak come to an end in game two
after going two-for-four in game one.
The Knights responded with their five-run rally in the bottom of
the innings to take a lead that they would not relinquish. The
Bulldogs did load the bases with nobody out in the seventh, but
were not able to score as FDU closer, Krsiten Shreve, got
three-straight outs to clinch up the win. Lindsay Martin
(Methuen, Mass.) also had a pair of hits in the contest,
recording her sixth multi-hit game of the season.
Game 2
Houseal scattered seven hits over seven innings as she
threw a complete game shutout to lift Bryant to the 4-0 win in game
two. It was the tenth win of the year for Houseal and the Bulldogs,
as she went seven innings without surrendering a single walk.
Laura Bowen (Hudson, Mass.) put Bryant on top
in the second inning, lacing a two-out double to left center that
plated Coon to put the Bulldogs up, 1-0. Bowen was two-for-three in
the contest with one RBI.
That was all Houseal would need, as the sophomore only allowed
four base-runners to advance as far as second base, with none of
the Knights reaching third in the contest.
Bryant (10-28) added some padding in the top of the sixth, as
Dobmeier drove in her first of two runs in the game with a single
down the right field line that scored Ali Chouinard
(Swansea, Mass.) to extend the lead to 2-0. Dobmeier had
her team-leading seventh multi-hit game and fifth multi-RBI game of
the season.
Lauren McCart (Vorhees, N.J.) drove in another
two-out run for the Bulldogs later in the frame, singling through
the left side to put Bryant on top 3-0. Dobmeier would put one more
run in the board for the visitors in the seventh, hitting an
infield single to the pitcher that allowed Martin to come home from
third.
Bryant will travel to UConn on Tuesday, as they look to avenge a
2-1 loss earlier in the season to the Huskies (3:30 p.m.).
