BRYANT WOMEN'S SOCCER BLANKS CONFERENCE FOE ROBERT MORRIS,
2-0
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Kaitlyn Hinck (Bow,
N.H.) and senior Steph Del
Mistro (East Williston, N.Y.) each netted a goal while
the defense took care of the rest as the Bryant University women's
soccer team downed Northeast Conference foe Robert Morris, 2-0,
Friday afternoon at Sutton Field.
The Bulldogs improve to 4-7-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference
action, posting their third shutout in as many games to open NEC
play. The Colonials fall to 5-7-1 on the season and 2-2 in the
NEC.
Bryant opened the game on the offensive, breaking through into
Colonial territory for a couple of early shots that floated just
high of the crossbar. Sophomore Alex Bengston
(Andover, Mass.) continued the push with a pair of nicely
placed crosses in front of the Robert Morris net but the Bulldog
forwards were unable to connect for a quality shot.

That shot came in the 22nd minute with Hinck's second
goal of the season. The forward travelled down the left flank,
eluded a pair of defenders to generate her own scoring opportunity
and chipped a shot over the head of Colonial keeper, Jessica Olin
for the 1-0 advantage.
The first half ended with the Bulldog backline preventing any
viable scoring opportunity by the opposition while the offense
continued to attack, totaling nine shots at intermission. Olin
managed to keep the Bulldogs out of the net, making five stops in
the half including a diving save to knock away a point blank shot
by Julie
Vajda (Midland Park, N.J.).
The Bulldogs kept up the press in the second half as Del Mistro
tipped in the insurance goal at the 70 minute mark. A corner by
freshman Ari Goldberg (East
Bridgewater, Mass.) deflected off the post to the feet of
Del Mistro who tucked the rebound past Olin for her first tally of
the season.
Sophomore Kelsi Jacob (Mahwah,
N.J.) made three saves in the contest to post her second
consecutive shutout while Olin registered nine stops.
The Black and Gold look to stay unbeaten in conference play on
Sunday, Oct. 10 when they welcome Saint Francis (PA) at
noon.
