WOMEN'S SOCCER DOWNED BY LAFAYETTE,
2-0
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Jill Dozier tallied a pair of goals for
the Leopards as the Bryant University women's soccer team
fell to visiting Lafayette, 2-0 Friday afternoon. Bryant dipped to
2-3 with the loss while the Leopards improved to 3-2 on the
season.
The Bulldogs managed to push back numerous Lafayette scoring
opportunities early in the first half until Dozier chipped in her
first goal of the contest in the 33rd minute.
The Leopards came out on the offensive following the break as
senior Katie Roberts intercepted a pass in front of the Bulldogs
goal and sent it back to Dozier who lifted it over the head of
Bryant keeper Kelsi Jacob (Mahwah, N.J.) for her
second tally.
Bryant enjoyed its best scoring chance of the contest ten
minutes into the second half on consecutive back-to-back shots from
defenders Steph Del Mistro (East Williston, N.Y.)
and Kaitlyn Fare (Milstone Township, N.J.) but
neither reached the back of the net. Sophomore Carolyn Giuliano (Wethersfield, Conn.) put up a strong shot in the
waning minutes of regulation but it was stopped by the dive of
Leopard keeper Lauren Smedley.
The Bulldogs were outshot 12-5 in the game and registered more
corner kicks by a margin of 5-4. Jacob recorded four saves for
Bryant while Smedley stopped two for Lafayette.
The Bryant University women's soccer team returns
to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 12 when they play host to
Providence at noon.
