WILDCATS, 2-0, THURSDAY NIGHT
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Kara Connolly scored twice for UNH as
the Wildcats outshot the Bulldogs, 15-3, handing the Bryant
University field hockey team a 2-0 loss Thursday night in Durham,
N.H.
Senior Julie Kuchyt (Hatfield, Mass.) and
rookies Mallory Hancock (Showhegan, Maine) and
Olivia Jankins (West Brookfield, Mass.) each
recorded a shot for the Bulldogs (0-3), while junior netminder
Jennifer Gullotti (Waltham, Mass.) made eight
stops in goal, but the Black and Gold couldn't get on the
board, suffering their third-straight loss to the start the 2010
season.
A low backhanded shot from Connolly at the 14:10 mark gave the
Wildcats (3-0) a 1-0 edge, a lead they would take into halftime.
Out of the break, Kendall Deck connected with Connolly on a penalty
corner in the 44th minute for the second and final tally of the
day.
Hayley Rausch fired a game-best seven shots for the home side,
while Bryant earned four penalty corners to the Wildcats'
three. Katherine Nagengast made one stop for UNH between the
pipes.
Bryant returns to action Monday, Sept. 6 when it travels to
Cambridge, Mass. to take on Harvard at 1 p.m. The Black and Gold
are still in search of their first win of the 2010 season and play
their first 11 contests away from home.
