Box Score Bulldogs host Monmouth Sunday at 1 pm
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – A five-goal outburst midway through the second half broke open a tie game as visiting Mount St. Mary's pulled away late for a 9-5 victory over Bryant University Friday afternoon at the Bryant Turf Complex.
Bryant (1-7, 0-1 NEC) took a 2-1 lead into the locker room after a first half that saw both teams struggle to find the back of the net offensively despite combining for 26 shots. Lisa Vendel (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and Emily Bogan (Swansea, Mass.) accounted for both first half goals for the Bulldogs.
Mount Saint Mary's (2-7, 1-0) would score two quick tallies to open the second half, the first by Nicole Price just 56 seconds into the half to knot the score at 2-2. Moments later, MSM's Alex Salerno would net the first of her three goals on the afternoon to give the visitors their first lead of the game.
Freshman Katherine Keckeisen (Danbury, Conn.) would pull Bryant back even with her 14th goal of the season after a nice setup pass from classmate Haley Bloom (Hauppauge, N.Y.).
But following a goal from junior attacker Lauren Sheridan (Bethpage, N.Y.), The Mount's Jen Semler scored three unanswered goals in a span of six minutes to put the visitors on top, 7-4, while Salerno followed with two more markers to put the game away.
Bryant finished the game outshooting The Mount, 24-22, but had 20 turnovers and converted only once on five free position shots in the game. The Bulldogs will look to get back in the win column this Sunday when they host Monmouth University at the Turf Complex starting at 1 p.m.
