BULLDOGS HOST SIENA AT HOME SUNDAY TO OPEN NEC PLAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team returns home after another extended road trip to host Siena College on Sunday, marking the start Northeast Conference play. Game time is set for 12 p.m. on the Turf.

The Bulldogs are coming off a tough stretch on the road as they look to get back in the win column beginning conference action. Despite sophomore Kelsey Hiltebeitel (Warminster, Pa.) recording her first score of the season, a goal from the Wildcats in the final minutes of the game was just enough to edge Bryant out.

Junior Megan Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) continues to be a mainstay between the pipes for the Black and Gold, registering every single minute in net for her squad.

The Saints (0-8) travel to Smithfield in search of their first victory of 2012. First year head coach Kara Zappone will look to 2011 leading scorers junior Jessica Smith, senior Kelly Johansmeyer and sophomore Michaela Sullivan to lead the visitors in the offensive half.  Junior Beth Meyers has started every match at goalkeeper for Siena, posting a .758 save percentage.

Last season, the two teams played even through the first 70 minutes of regulation before junior Mallory Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) broke away to beat Meyers, granting the Bulldogs the 2-1 victory in Loudonville, N.Y.

Entering Sunday, the Saints will be out for revenge as both teams look to open conference play with a win.
