FIELD HOCKEY HEADS TO HARVARD FOR A SHOWDOWN WITH THE CRIMSON, MONDAY AT 6 PM
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team will head to Cambridge, Mass. for a showdown with Harvard on Monday, Sept. 24. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The Crimson (1-5) will be the third consecutive Ivy League opponent for the Bulldogs (2-6) who most recently fell to Dartmouth, 6-5, on Wednesday. Harvard will be looking to get back in the win column as well, after dropping its last five contests, including a 4-3 loss to Penn over the weekend.
On Wednesday, the Bulldogs allowed four Dartmouth goals to start the game, however the Black and Gold went on to record five of the next seven markers in what turned out to be Bryant's highest scoring output thus far.
Despite four goals from sophomore Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand), including three in the final 26 minutes, the Bulldogs came up short, falling to the Big Green, 6-5. Junior Olivia Jankins (West Brookfield, Mass.) registered the other Bryant tally and classmate Kayleigh Ballantyne (Gorham, Maine) assisted on three of the five Bulldog scores.
Harvard enters Monday's action looking for a W after falling to 0-2 in the Ivy League on Saturday. The Crimson are led by sophomores Noel Painter and Caitlin Rea, who have each tallied four points through the first six games. Painter has found the back of the cage on two occasions, while Rea has four of Harvard's assists.
Last September, the Crimson found the back of the net twice in the final 22 minutes of play to come from behind to beat the Bulldogs, 2-1, in Cambridge.
The Bulldogs will look to earn their first victory against Harvard on Monday, having never beaten the Ivy League foe in all three of their all-time matchups.
