BULLDOGS HEAD TO PENNSYLVANIA FOR A PAIR OF GAMES OVER THE WEEKEND
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After falling, 4-1, to Harvard on Monday, the Bryant University field hockey team looks to get back in the win column over the weekend when they head to Pennsylvania for a pair of games.
The Bulldogs (2-7) will play La Salle, Friday at 4 p.m., and Villanova, Sunday at 1 p.m., in their final action before beginning Northeast Conference play on Oct. 7.
On Monday, Bryant visited Cambridge, Mass. for a showdown with the Crimson. Despite getting on the board first, the Bulldogs allowed Harvard to tally the next four goals, en route to a 4-1 loss.
Freshman Michelle Fallon (Pompton Plains, N.J.) gave the Black and Gold an early lead when she recorded her second marker of the year at the 7:55 mark. Fallon advanced the ball into the circle and was able to beat the Crimson defense for the first goal of the contest.
Harvard went on to register the next four goals, including three in the final 13 minutes of the first half.
Elizabeth Jacobson netted the equalizer for the Crimson at the 22:29 mark off a helper from a penalty corner by Caitlin Rea. Katelin Wahl and Rachael Rosenfeld each went on to put home a goal in the final ten minutes of the half, to push the Harvard lead to 3-1 at halftime.
Noel Painter put away the fourth and final Crimson goal ten minutes into the second half, ending the contest, 4-1, in favor of the home team.
La Salle enters Friday's contest with a 3-7 record after falling, 3-1, at Liberty on Sunday. The Explorers are led by junior Olivia Shoemaker who has registered a team-leading four goals through ten games this season. Sophomore Lisa Shaffer has played all but 15 minutes in goal for her team, posting 78 saves and two shutouts. After Bryant, the Explorers will play NEC-foe Sacred Heart on Sunday before opening Atlantic-10 Conference action.
Reigning NEC Co-Player of the Week Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) scored twice in a 4-1 Bulldogs' victory over La Salle last October in Smithfield.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs will head to Villanova for a 1 p.m. showdown with the Wildcats. The Big East foe enters the weekend with a 4-5 record, after dropping its last four contests. Sophomore Leah High leads the Wildcats with a team-high 12 points on five goals and 2 assists.
The Bulldogs will look to get back on track in time to start conference play against Siena on Oct. 7.
