SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite getting out to an early lead, the Bryant University women's soccer team dropped a tough decision to Mount St. Mary's, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

The Bulldogs got off to a blistering start, attacking aggressively in in the Mountaineer third of the pitch right from the get-go. After a couple close calls early on, sophomore Allison DeBenedictis (Norwell, Mass.) crossed a beautiful ball into the box where junior Michelle Durand (Sudbury, Mass.) headed in her first tally of the season to put Bryant up 1-0 less than four minutes into the contest.

The Black and Gold kept pressing for another score but despite a whopping 26 shots, including nine on net, were unable to find the back of the net.

In the 34th minute, The Mount were able to net the equalizer when Jackie Corley beat an oncoming Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.) to an inbetween-ball that Corley flicked over the head of Conrad to knot the score, 1-1, heading into the break.

Out of halftime, both teams went back-and-fourth with multiple scoring chances until Keriann McGettigan headed a ball over the outstretched arm of Conrad for the game-winner in the 87th minute.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 5-10-1 overall, 1-3-1 in the Northeast Conference. Looking forward, Bryant has just three matches remaining on their 2013 schedule with the next coming on Friday against Wagner when the Seahawks visit Smithfield for Senior Day (3 p.m.)
