Bulldogs visit Robert Morris Friday (7 p.m.)

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - After an up-and-down weekend in Smithfield, the Bryant University field hockey team will look to continue its strong 2013 campaign with a trip to Moon Township, Pa., and a showdown with Robert Morris, Friday at 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs currently sit 2-1 in their first season of MAAC play, clinching both of their victories in epic overtime thrillers. Despite a tough loss to Monmouth on Sunday, Bryant sits tied for second play in the league. Junior forward Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) has been outstanding for the Black and Gold, compiling 30 points, with five game-winning scores through 14 games.

Robert Morris enters Friday's contest with an 8-6 overall mark, 1-2 in conference play. The Colonials welcome Bryant coming off a 1-0 double-overtime win over Sacred Heart on Sunday, marking the fifth shutout of the season for Robert Morris. Freshman Chloe McIlwaine and sophomore Jess Martin-Brown have each put away eight goals on the year, both just a single score away from tying the single-season record (9) set by Martin-Brown last year.

After being selected to finish sixth in the preseason coach's poll, the Bulldogs have already exceeded expectations. However, with just three games left on its regular season slate, Bryant's work is not finished as they look to earn a berth in the MAAC Tournament come November.
