SMITHFIELD, R.I. – For the second-straight game, the Bryant University field hockey team took it down to the wire, but it was La Salle who found the back of the net first as the Bulldogs fall, 1-0, Friday night at the Bryant Turf Complex.

Off the final penalty corner of the contest, Maddy Tettelbach lined up her 16th corner attempt, firing a pass to Olivia Leaman. Leaman received the corner, passing to Olivia Shoemaker who quickly dished it back to Leaman who launched a strike from the circle past Bryant keeper Megan Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) for the lone score of the contest.

The Bulldogs, who now fall to 7-3 with the loss, outshot their opponents, 17-13, including 12-5 in the first half. However, the Explorers earned a whopping 16 corners, compared to Bryant's 6, proving to be the difference on Friday.

Junior forward Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) fired seven shots in the contest, while freshman midfielder Kimberly Lizotte (Littleton, Mass.) added three of her own, but neither Bulldog was able to find the back of the net.

La Salle's Lisa Shaffer was extraordinary between the pipes with diving stop after diving stop, making 10 saves in her fourth win of the year. Megan Hancock was once again solid in net for Bryant, stopping five saves in 10th start of the season.

The Black and Gold will wrap up their 2013 out-of-conference schedule with a trip to Maine on Sunday (1 p.m.), opening their inaugural season in the MAAC at Siena a week from today (Oct. 11).
