WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO HARTFORD, 1-0, FRIDAY NIGHT ON LAST-MINUTE GOAL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite outshooting its opponents by more than double, the Bryant University women's soccer team fell to Hartford, 1-0, Friday night in both squad's 2013 season opener.

After more than 80 minutes of scoreless play, Hartford's Elise Galipo found teammate Natasha Douglas as she broke free of the Bulldog defense, chipping a shot over Bryant keeper Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.) for the lone score of the match.

The Bulldogs, who now fall to 0-1 on the year, outshot their opposition, 17-8, including four shots on goal. Senior forward Shana Follette (Plymouth, Mass.) led the way with four shots, including one on goal, while junior midfielder Emily Barbato (Sutton, Mass.) fired off three shots of her own. Junior Katy Biagi (Natick, Mass.), and sophomores Quinn Massaroni (Albany, N.Y.) and Caitlin Hannagen (Richboro, Pa.) also each added a pair of shots.

Hartford keeper Alison Koerkenmeier stopped a game-high four shots, while Conrad made a pair of saves in her first collegiate start between the pipes.

The Bulldogs will have another opportunity to pick up their first victory of 2013 in less than 48 hours when they welcome Maine to Bulldog Stadium on Sunday. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
