COACH GARLACY'S COMMENTS (vs FAU)
"What a huge five set win to open our season. We stayed calm even when down and never wavered in our belief that we would win. Amazing defensive effort from Carrina Barron and Carolina Camacho. We played aggressive out of system."

HOW IT HAPPENED (AT FLORIDA ATLANTIC)
  • Set 1-The Bulldogs and Owls would exchange leads continuously throughout the first set. Arianna Ugolini and Aubrey Lapour would have a commanding offensive presence for the Black and Gold as they would combine for 10 kills in the first. Brookelyn Talmadge also made a tremendous impact for Bryant on the defensive end, tallying three blocks in the opening set. The Bulldogs captured the first set 25-17, setting an early tone for the match.
  • Set 2- FAU would find their footing in the second and go on a 9-2 run, putting Bryant in a difficult position. Despite posting four blocks in the set, Bryant would fall in the second set 25-10.
  • Set 3- Challenges continued for Bryant into the third set as Florida Atlantic would jump out to an early 9-1 lead. Although they battled back, the deficit would be too much to overcome resulting in FAU winning the 3rd 25-15, taking a 2-1 advantage. Fabi Castro and Arianna Ugolini each recorded multiple blocks for Bryant in the set.
  • Set 4- Facing elimination, Bryant showcased their resilience. Key contributions from Castro and Ugolini helped the Bulldogs regain their composure. Castro would record four kills as well as two service aces to help put the Bulldogs ahead. After outperforming the Owls, the Black and Gold would force a fifth set on a Brookelyn Talmadge kill; winning 25-19.
  • Set 5-The decisive fifth set of the match played similar to the first as both teams would exchange leads. At the halfway point of the set, FAU would hold a three point lead. Bryant would rally to even the score at 11 thanks to kills from Talmadge and LaPour. Fabi Castro would also play a critical role in turning the tide as she would land back-to-back service aces. That momentum would power Bryant to a 15-11 5th set victory to complete the comeback.
STATS
  • Carrina Barron and Carolina Camacho both had double-doubles in the victory. Barron would finish with 16 assists and 19 digs. Camacho would finish the match with a team-high 22 assists and 17 digs.
  • Arianna Ugolini led the Black and Gold with 13 kills in the match. Aubrey LaPour finished second with 12.
  • With 70 digs and 10 total blocks, Bryant's defense played a pivotal role in their victory.
  • Brookelyn Talmadge would lead the team with 6 blocks against the Owls.
MATCH NOTES
  • After missing the majority of last season due to injury, Fabi Castro had a huge impact in her 2024 debut. The fifth year opposite hitter would tally eight kills and four service aces for the Bulldogs.
  • Claudia Camacho-Castro would make her collegiate debut and play alongside her older sister Carolina in the victory.
  • Today's victory puts Coach Garlacy just three wins away from 600 in her college coaching career.

COACH GARLACY'S COMMENTS (VS BALL STATE)
"After an emotional five set win this morning we just couldn't get into the flow for the second match. Lots of opportunities to learn though. Looking forward to tomorrow."

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Ball State)
  • Set 1- The Cardinals jumped out to an early advantage by capitalizing on the Bulldogs' mistakes. Despite four kills from Fabi Castro, the Black and Gold would not have enough to overcome the Ball State lead as they would go on to win the first 25-15.
  • Set 2- The next set would see Bryant find more success in spreading out their offense as three separate players (Castro, Talmadge, and Abdat) would record multiple kills. Nina Gavin also had an impact for the Bulldogs in the set as she would record a kill and a block. Although they showed improvement, Bryant would still fall short and see FAU go up 2-0 after winning 25-17.
  • Set 3- The final set would see Florida Atlantic seal the deal as the Bulldogs would struggle to get things going offensively. Aubrey LaPour would tally three kills but it would not be enough as FAU would complete the sweep winning the final set 25-12.
STATS
  • Fabi Castro led the Bulldogs with 7 kills in game two of the doubleheader.
  • Carolina Camacho led the Black and Gold with 11 assists.
  • Nadine Abdat hit .714 for Bryant in the match with 5 kills and two blocks.
MATCH NOTES
  • Freshman Natalie Ricevuto would make her collegiate debut against the Cardinals and record her first career kill.
  • In her season debut, Melis Isik finished with 7 assists.
