Bryant Falls to Stony Brook In Home Opener

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite a career-high six-goal performance from Emily DeGeorge, the Bryant women's lacrosse team fell to Stony Brook, 16-12.

DeGeorge's six goals tied her with Stony Brook's Isabella Caporuscio for the game-high, but the Bulldogs were unable to overcome the Seawolves' control of possession. Isabella Katter opened the scoring for Bryant, but Stony Brook's consistent offensive execution and defense forced 21 turnovers, limiting the Bulldogs' transition opportunities.

The Seawolves held the advantage in key statistical categories: winning 17 draw controls, securing an 18-14 edge in ground balls, and converting 22-of-27 clears.

Despite Bryant's efforts to close the gap, Stony Brook maintained its lead to secure the win.

Quarter 1: While Bryant scored the opening goal courtesy of Isabelle Katter, Stony Brook controlled much of the first quarter. Caporuscio gathered two back to back unassisted goals to set the tone before Riley O'Mara provided an unassisted goal to answer back.

Quarter 2: Stony Brook took control outscoring Bryant 6-2, Caporuscio and Wilmoth extended the Seawolves lead early, while DeGeorge stepped up and capitalized on a free position opportunity to keep Bryant within reach. Stony Brook closed the half with two more goals to end at 9-4.

Quarter 3: The Bulldogs and the Seawolves consistently traded goals, but Stony Brook maintained dominance during the duration of the quarter. Riley O'Mara and Emily DeGeorge each added their own goals while Ashling Marshall scored her first collegiate goal. However, the Seawolves still pressed on to finish out the quarter 13-8.

Quarter 4: Bryant fought to close the gap, with DeGeorge pulling them through, scoring twice including a man-down goal and Riley O'Mara clutching with a late goal. Despite the Bulldogs tenacity the clock ran down 0:00 with the score finishing as 16-12 for a Stony Brook win.
