Baseball opens three-game set at Delaware on Friday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant baseball team opens a three-game set at Delaware on Friday afternoon with a 4:00 p.m. first pitch. The series continues on Saturday (2:00 p.m.) and concludes on Sunday (1:00 p.m.)

Bryant enters the weekend at 2-3-1 following a 9-9 tie with Merrimack on Wednesday.

  • Luke Delongchamp will get the ball on Friday for the Bulldogs. Delongchamp has thrown just 3.0 innings in two starts this year as he works his way back into form. He has allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and struck out three.
  • Michael Belcher has pitched 4.0 innings in each of his first two starts. Last weekend at UCF, he allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four. He has 11 strikeouts and just two walks in eight innings.
  • After having his first start washed out opening weekend, Clay Robbins made his Bryant debut last Sunday at UCF, tossing 3.1 shutout innings. He didn't surrender a hit but did hit three and walk two.

Bryant vs. Delaware

  • Bryant and Delaware get together for the first time since the 2018 season. The Bulldogs own a 7-2 lead in the all-time head-to-head, having taken 3-of-4 in a pair of weekend sets.
  • The Bulldogs won three games in the first meeting in 2014, a series that was played at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Md., while renovations were completed at Bob Hannah Stadium.
  • Bryant then slugged out a midweek win the magical 2016 season before returning to take 3-of-4 over St. Patrick's Day Weekend in 2018.
  • The Bulldogs have outscore the Blue Hens 82-37. 

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant played to a 9-9 tie with Merrimack on Wednesday and is 2-3-1 entering the third weekend of the 2025 season. 
  • The Bulldogs are hitting .238 as a team but have pitched to a 3.99 ERA as a staff. 
  • Brandyn Durand is off to a hot start, hitting .500 (11-for-22) with two doubles, four home runs, 12 RBI and eight runs scored. He leads the America East with 1.678 OPS.
  • Gavin Noriega remains the team leader with three doubles.
  • Charlie Saul has hit safely in each of his last three games and is hitting .263 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored. 
  • Bryant has already had 17 pitchers touch the rubber in the first six games of the year. Of that total, only Belcher and Ty Davis are freshmen.
  • Mark Scamardella has recorded 3.1 scoreless innings to start the year, extending his impressive end of 2024. He's allowed just five runs over his last 23.1 innings.
  • Dylan Scudder has also been good out of the bullpen after tossing 3.0 scoreless on Friday night at UCF. 

Scouting the Blue Hens

  • Delaware enters the weekend at 3-5 overall, having won each of its last three games. 
  • The Blue Hens were swept opening weekend at FAU and dropped the first two games at FIU last weekend before finding their footing. 
  • UD won 7-6 on Sunday then defeated Maryland 13-10 on Tuesday before earning a 22-2 win over Delaware State on Wednesday.
  • Aaron Graeber is hitting .382 with five home runs and 10 RBI. All five of those homers came in a three-game stretch at FIU and Maryland. 
  • Jackson Tyer has a .481 OBP and is tied for the team lead with two stolen bases.
  • UD has a staff ERA of 8.60, issuing 39 walks and striking out 67 in 69.0 innings. 
  • Carter Welch has been the most effective out of the pen, striking out seven over 7.2 innings.
