Bryant Falls to UMBC in America East Opener

Baltimore, MD –  At  UMBC Stadium on Friday evening, Bryant (5-4) fell to UMBC (8-1) in a 17-9 defeat. Despite a second-half push, the Retrievers maintained control and capitalized on key scoring opportunities to secure the win.

Bryant is now 5-4 on the season.

How It Happened

First Quarter

Bryant opened the scoring early as Isabelle Katter found the net less than a minute into the game. UMBC quickly responded, but the Bulldogs went on a 3-0 run, led by goals from Emily DeGeorge and Harper McGinley. Bryant dominated possession and held a 4-1 lead at the end of the quarter.

Second Quarter

The Bulldogs continued their momentum, with Gabriella Constant and Katter extending the lead to 6-1. However, UMBC fought back with a 6-1 scoring run, led by Grace Bruce and Katana Nelson. The Retrievers tied the game 7-7 by halftime.

Third Quarter

UMBC took control in the third quarter, outscoring Bryant 7-1. Despite an early goal from Riley O'Mara, the Retrievers answered. Bruce and Nelson combined for four goals, and UMBC capitalized on key turnovers to build a 14-8 lead heading into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter

Bryant struggled to gain traction in the fourth quarter. Isabelle Katter added a free-position goal to cut into UMBC's lead, but the Retrievers' attack remained efficient. Tess Curtis and Emily Knapp sealed the game for UMBC with two late goals, securing a 17-9 victory.
