Game 2BROOKVILLE, N.Y - Sophomore outfielder Jill Fisher smashed a first game grand slam as part of a six-RBI game to spark the C.W. Post Pioneers to a doubleheader sweep of Bryant University, winning by scores of 7-1 and 3-1 on Saturday, April 9.
Fisher knocked in the first run of the opener with a single to center that brought home Samantha Yodowitz, who had led off the bottom of the first with a double. Bryant quickly knotted the score the following inning as Jordan Dargon came home on Amanda Wilbur's double down the left field line.
Post finally broke the deadlock in their half of the fifth when Yodowitz scored off a Fisher line-drive double, which was smashed up the middle. The ball had been deflected by Bulldog hurler (and starter) Stephanie Miller, but glanced off the pitcher's head and ricocheted into left field. Miller was forced from the game as a result of the drive but was okay.
One inning later, the Pioneers put the game away with a Kristen Berdinka single that made it 3-1, which was followed three batters later by Fisher's grand slam to right center.
Senior Amanda Moore picked up her sixth victory in the win, tossing a complete game three-hitter, striking out five.
In the nightcap, Post scored single runs in the second and third innings to take the early advantage. In the second, freshman shortstop Kelsey Cooley singled home junior outfielder Kelsey Walker, who had led off the stanza with a double off the center field fence. One inning later, Joanna Moccia was hit by a pitch, then scampered around the bases after Krystle Scala reached base on a throwing error.
Bryant chopped the deficit in half when Dargon was hit by a pitch and once again came home on a double off the bat of Wilbur.
The Pioneers would add an insurance run in the fifth on Moccia's sacrifice fly that brought home Berdinka to give Yodowitz her third straight win. The freshman also allowed just three hits and struck out nine in her complete game stint.
