RED-HOT BULLDOGS LOOK TO CONTINUE STREAK WELCOMING SAINT FRANCIS TO SMITHFIELD SATURDAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off a dominate victory over Brown on Thursday, the Bryant University softball team continues Northeast Conference play on Saturday when it welcomes Saint Francis U. to Smithfield for a doubleheader at Conaty Park (1/3 p.m.).

The red–hot Bulldogs have won five-straight entering the weekend to put them at 10-14 overall this season. Most recently, Bryant defeated Brown, 10-1, Thursday afternoon behind a strong performance from senior pitcher Jennifer Jacob (Deer Park, N.Y.) who allowed just one run on two hits in five innings of work.

Over the five-game win streak the Bulldogs are hitting .439 as a team while holding their opponents to just .298. Junior outfielder Lauren Guy (La Habra, Calif.) has posted a .625 average, collecting 10 hits, including three homeruns and eight RBI. Classmate Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.) has tallied 11 hits to go along with her nine RBIs and sophomore Jessica Benacquista (Belleville, N.J.) is 7-for-13 (.538) with a pair of homers. On the hill, freshman Elle Madsen (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) has been lights out for the Bulldogs posting a 0.95 era in 14.2 innings pitched.

The Red Flash enter weekend play boasting a 15-12 overall record, most recently coming off a pair of tough extra-inning loses against Youngstown St. on Thursday. Saturday will mark the first NEC action for the Red Flash this season. Junior Chelsy Cosentino leads Saint Francis with a .424 batting average, collecting a team-best 36 hits through just 27 games. Sophomore infielder Taylor Parsons ranks second on the team with a .356 average, while freshman Samantha Thomas comes in hitting .320. Junior shortstop Davina Kachnovitz paces the team in the power categories with five homeruns and 21 RBI. On the hill, Freshman Keterah DeVries handles most on the pitching duties posting a 10-8 (2.07 era) record in 21 appearances this season.

One year ago, the Bulldogs and Red Flash split their doubleheader in Loretto, Pa. Bryant will look to continue its strong play against a very good Red Flash team on Saturday.
