Five-run second lifts Dayton over Bryant on Friday

DAYTON, Ohio – Dylan Scudder struck out seven over 4.2 scoreless innings of relief but a five-run second was enough to lift Dayton to a 7-1 victory over the Bryant baseball team on Friday.
 
The Bulldogs fall to 4-6-1 overall with the loss. Bryant and Dayton continue their series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
 
Scudder entered in the middle of the Flyers' five-run second and proceeded to throw 4.2 scoreless innings of relief. He allowed just four hits, walked one and struck out seven.
 
Matt D'Amato, Eliot Medlock and Gavin Greger – batting 6, 7, 8 in the lineup – combined for four of Bryant's four hits on the afternoon.

  • The Flyers posted five runs on four hits in a decisive second inning.
How it Happened
  • Scoreless in the second, Dayton put it's first three runners on with two singles and a walk. A hit batter brought in the first run and a chopper between first and the mound was bobbled to allow a second run to score. After a sac fly and an RBI single made it 4-0, Scudder entered the game. He allowed a two-out RBI single to close the scoring in the inning but went on to allow just four baserunners over the next four innings.
  • Bryant plated its lone run in the fifth. D'Amato and Medlock opened the inning with singles and Greger advanced both with a sac bunt. Aleksei Goldhill's ground ball to third brought home D'Amato.
  • Dayton closed the scoring with a pair of runs off Jared Burrows in the seventh. The first run scored on a ground out to third and the second came on a two-out single to left.
