Aidan Shea joins XCTF staff as graduate assistant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Aidan Shea has been named a graduate assistant for the Bryant cross country and track and field programs, Bryant University Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Mitchell Switzer announced on Wednesday.

Shea joins the Bulldogs after completing a standout career at fellow America East member New Hampshire.

"As a former competitor in the America East, Aidan brings a great perspective to our program as we look to continue competing at a high level," Switzer said. "His professionalism, knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport, and the genuine impact he's made on others throughout his athletic career stood out throughout the hiring process.  His character aligns perfectly with our goals as a program, and I think he will have a major impact in our success over the next two years."

Shea, New Hampshire's nominee for America East Man of the Year, concluded his stellar collegiate career with a silver medal in the 1,500 meter run at the 2025 New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while he took bronze in the event at the America East Championships. He recorded a personal-best time of 3:45.03 in the 1,500 meter run at the Virginia Challenge which was just shy of the UNH program record (3:44.66). He also picked up a silver medal in the 4x800 meter relay at the New England Championships and a bronze at the America East Championships.

Shea also had a strong 2025 indoor season with a gold in the 3,000 meter run and the Distance Medley Relay at the New England Championships, and a silver in the mile at the America East Championships along with a silver in the DMR and a bronze in the 4x800 meter relay. Shea set the school record in the indoor mile at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational with a time of 4:01.74.

Previously, Shea won gold in the DMR at the 2023 and 2024 IC4A Indoor Championships and at the 2024 America East Indoor Championships.

He has 3.89 GPA and earned America East All-Academic Team honors three times, was a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society, America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete and was on the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll. Shea also received  College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team accolades.
